Overview

The Victor Band Boosters is pleased to announce the 2009 Victor Summer Music Lesson Program, a cost effective private lesson program that serves the instrumental music students of the Victor Central School District.

Eligibility

ALL instrumental music students in the Victor Central School District going into grades 5-12 (for the 2009-2010 calendar school year) are eligible to participate in this program.

Program

The summer lesson program consists of eight 30-minute private lessons on a weekly basis between July 6th and August 27th.

Lessons will take place on Tuesdays through Thursdays from 8am-5pm this year. That is an extension from last year’s hours. Percussion lessons will be available on Wednesday’s ONLY.

Parents/Guardians will have an opportunity to select which day is preferred and a choice between morning (8:00-12:00) and afternoon (12:30-5:00). Preferences are honored based on earliest registration and received payment. We will do our best to accommodate your preferred day and time. If we cannot match your preference, we will contact you to discuss another day and time for the lesson.

All lessons will be provided on campus in the Jr./Sr. High music wing. Details on the exact location of your student’s lesson will be provided in your confirmation packet.

Instructors

Each student will receive a half-hour lesson (26 minutes of instruction) consisting of 1-to-1 instruction from a qualified music instructor. All music instructors are approved by the Victor High School Band Director. This year’s instructors include Stacy More, Tim Holtz, Paul Van Horn, and Eric Lutters.

Stacy Moore - Stacy is in her 11th year of teaching instrumental music and has been with the Victor Central School District for the past five years. She holds Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Music Education from the State University of New York College at Fredonia School of Music, as well as a Performer's Certificate on Flute. Stacy is a member of the Rochester Flute Association and has served as guest conductor for the Cattaraugus Elementary All-County Band, as well as guest clinician for Flute Day at St. Bonaventure University.

Tim Holtz – Tim is in his 14th year of teaching instrumental music, and is current a band director in the Churchville/Chili School District. He received both his Bachelors and Masters degrees from Nazareth College of Rochester. Tim was a staff member of the Victor Marching Blue Devils for the 5 years. In his spare time, Tim enjoys spending time outside either fishing on one of the Finger Lakes or working outside on a home improvement project.

Paul Van Horn – Paul is a band director at Thomas High School in Webster, NY. In addition to his Ninth Grade Band and Concert Band he teaches the Thomas Titan Jazz Ensemble. Paul is a member of MENC, NYSSMA, and IAJE. He received his undergraduate from Berklee College of Music and his Master's from Nazareth College. Paul has performed with the New Vintage Big Band and the Boulevard Big Band. He enjoys hiking, camping, and canoeing with his wife Beth.

Eric Lutters – Eric is currently a Senior Music Education/ Performance Major at The Eastman School of Music.  He performs frequently with The Eastman Wind Ensemble, Orchestra, and Percussion Ensemble.  Erik also plays with his own percussion group, "The Volta Trio", who were recently featured in the 2008 NYSSMA winter conference.  Erik has also performed with several Drum and Bugle Corps including the Patriots, Magic of Orlando, Empire Statesmen, and The Cavaliers.

Fees

The Program requires a one-time fee of $152 per student.  This equals $19.00 per lesson, far below the average of $28 or more per each half hour lesson offered by most private instructors.

Students will be required to make full payment of before the first lesson. Checks may be made payable to the Victor Band Boosters, Inc.

Sponsorship

The Victor Band Boosters will sponsor families with financial hardship who have students wishing to take the summer lessons. Financial assistance is available and will be determined on a case by case basis. If you family would like assistance, please contact Eric Everhart, Victor High School Band Director at everharte@victorschools.org.

Refunds

Requests for refunds must be made two weeks prior to the July 6th start date.

If a student does not make a lesson at the date and time agreed upon with the instructor, they will not be eligible to receive a refund for missed lessons. A student may arrange for make-up lessons due to illness, vacation, or work commitments. We will do our best to accommodate the request.

Requirements

All students will be responsible for providing their own instruments (unless an instrument is a standard school supplied instrument), accessories (including reeds), and any method books required by the instructor. All fees associated with these materials and locations where you can purchase them will be provided in your confirmation packet.

Next Steps

If your student is interested in participating in the summer music lesson program, please email Mark Rider for a copy of the Registration Form at mark@victorbluedevils.org.
